of the Bible Society, more than
one million complete Bibles
were distributed in 1984.

birthday blessings
In celebration of her 30th
birthday, a resident of
Mitchells Plain near Cape
Town decided to bless others
with the Word of God.
Ruth Govender was so
thankful to God for add-
ing another year to her life that she
reached out to residents in need of
the nearby Kapteinsdrif informal
settlement.
Ruth made food parcels that
helped to feed 80 children and
elderly people.
Dr Ruth Jonas, Organising
Secretary of the Bible Society, and a
team of women from the United Con-
gregational Church in Mitchells Plain
accompanied her.
During their visit, they also handed
out Bibles, Gospel of John booklets
and some of the Bible Society’s
Bible-based literacy material. They
also prayed for the safety of the elderly
amid the Covid-19 pandemic.
