Kempton Park resident, Chanika Viljoen,
is one of the finalists of the Miss Deaf
South Africa 2020 competition. Recently,
she paid a visit to the local Bible House
in Kempton Park and was presented
with two copies of
The Bible for the Deaf
.
As a part of her charitable work
undertaken in her role as a finalist,
Chanika planned to donate the Bibles to
two schools in Soweto: Sizwile School for the Deaf and Kutlwanong School for the
Deaf, that would greatly benefit from it.
“Thank you to the Bible Society of South Africa for the two Bibles for the Deaf,
I really appreciate it. I am so grateful that you can help the deaf community. It is
important that deaf children understand the Bible and believe in God.

Recently, the Bible Society donated 5 000
Bible-based literacy booklets to Solidarity
Helping Hand to assist the organisation in
its attempt to address poverty during the early stages of the Covid-19 pandemic.
These booklets, as well as food parcels, were given to underprivileged families,
and were also earmarked for use in their
Lunch box
and
Schoolbag
projects.
The Chief Executive Officer of Helping Hand, Hannes Noëth, said, “We have
always worked towards the principle that we not only had to tackle physical
poverty, but also spiritual poverty. The co-operation with the Bible Society is
confirmation that we are serious about this, and together with the food parcels,
want to give hope to families.”
