Bibles for the poor

To make Bibles available free of charge in a responsible manner to those who are unable to afford it.

  • According to Statistics South Africa, 30,4 million South Africans live in poverty. One in every three South Africans live on an income of less than R797 per month, with more women in poverty than men, and children and the elderly the hardest hit. For one in every seven South Africans it means a shortage of food, they must survive on R441 or less per month.
  • According to the latest available figures, 27,7% of the economically active population in South Africa is unemployed.
  • The Bible brings hope, but many people are unable to afford a Bible of their own. Requests pour into our Bible Houses daily of people who would like to receive a Bible of their own or churches that want to help the poor with this.
  • There is a strategy in place to ensure that the Bibles reach the right people.
  • Thanks to this project, 18 291 people unable to afford a Bible of their own, received one in 2017.

Expected impact
  • The Bible is placed in the hands of people who desperately need it, but who are unable to afford it.
  • The power of the Living Word will bring comfort and hope to people who sometimes feel that they have been rejected and forgotten by society.
