Bibles for the poor

To make Bibles available free of charge in a responsible manner to those who are unable to afford it.

  • According to Stats SA, 30,4 million South Africans live in poverty. One in every three South Africans live on an income of less than R797 per month, with more women in poverty than men.
  • Children 17 years and younger, and the elderly are the hardest hit. For one in every seven South Africans it means a shortage of food, they must survive on R441 or less per month.
  • South Africa is among the top 20 countries with the world’s highest unemployment rates. According to the latest figures, 27,2% of the economically active population of South Africa is unemployed.
  • The Bible brings hope, but many people cannot afford a Bible of their own. On a daily basis requests pour into our Bible Houses from people who would love to receive a Bible of their own or from churches that would like to help the poor.
  • A strategy is in place to ensure that the Bible reaches the right people.
  • Thanks to this project, 15 333 people who were unable to afford a Bible of their own, received one in 2018.

Expected impact
  • The Bible is placed in the hands of people who desperately need it, but who are unable to afford it.
  • The power of the Living Word will bring comfort and hope to people who sometimes feel that they have been rejected and forgotten by society.
