Cranking it for Bibles

The Mother City was a hive of activity this past weekend as thousands of cyclists took to the streets for the annual Cape Town Cycle Tour. The event is also a big affair on the Bible Society’s calendar.

Theresia Lessing (29) of Limpopo was part of a group that cycled for Bibles during the cycle tour.

Theresia was introduced to the Bible Society’s Cycle for Bibles project when Pastor Mike Roodt of the Bible Society hosted a mountain bike event for Bible distribution in her home town of Potgietersrus.

“We ordered our Cycle for Bibles jerseys back then already,” Theresia says.

Since she waited too long to enter the cycle tour, she had to use one of the charities to enter. “The Bible Society was my first choice,” said Theresia who completed her first Cape Town Cycle Tour last year.

“It was great being part of a group of people who cycles for Bibles. The Bible is the most important guideline in a person’s life and I am glad that I can play a part in its distribution. In a small way, we are the hands of Jesus working in society,” she explained.

For the last five years the Bible Society has given cyclists the opportunity to cycle for Bibles in this popular race. However, there are a number of ways one can cycle for Bibles – in any race or even a long distance ride.
